12704-3 - Bring Your Own Data to OnCommand Insight: Customize OCI with Data Important to You NetApp OnCommand Insight traditionally uses a structured schema that defines fixed objects and counters that can be collected and analyzed from devices. While this works well as a general approach, customers are increasingly working in a more varied and faster-changing environment that demands more flexibility and local adaptation in data collection. In addition to maintaining traditional collection pathways, OnCommand release 7.3.0 introduces a new "integration API" that allows users to bring their own data and view it as they want. Users can define new objects and counters and analyze them on site, allowing integration pathways with virtually any device or software stack in the infrastructure. These new objects and counters augment the existing traditional OnCommand data, enabling much more powerful and in-depth analytics, customized to the local environment. This talk covers in detail the new API syntax and how to use it. We provide a live demo using the API to solve common uses. The session also covers details of a new traditional data source that uses this API for data ingestion, the generic SNMP data source. Users can configure this data source to collect customized data from virtually any device that supports an SNMP MIB, and we provide and discuss examples. 1 Hour Breakout Jason Sprague - Technical Director, NetApp
12708-2 - How NVMe and Storage-Class Memory Are Reshaping the Storage Industry Al-flash storage arrays based on NAND flash media deliver superb and consistent performance. In addition, advances in flash technology and data reduction capabilities extend the applications that can benefit from using solid-state storage. Two emerging technologies—nonvolatile memory express (NVMe) interfaces and storage-class memory (SCM)—will offer another dramatic improvement in performance and deployment opportunities. We will begin the session by explaining how modern computer systems speak to remote disks, and how and why we used the SCSI protocol for as many years as we did; then explain how these technologies are crippling modern storage media (SSD and SCM). We will explain NVMe and how it is designed for modern media. We will compare performance details and general I/O handling. From here, we will explore how this technology is being used today by NetApp, followed by an explanation of NVMe over data fabrics and how it could radically change storage architectures beyond simple speeds and feeds. You'll learn what these technologies are about, the benefits they offer and what you can and should do to prepare to adopt and take advantage of them. 1 Hour Breakout Jeff Baxter - Chief Evangelist, ONTAP, NetApp
12714-2 - Trends in Data Protection and the NetApp Role There are many ways to back up data. What has changed over the years and what has caused that change? Learn how NetApp Snapshot and replication technologies solve these complex backup and restore issues. Also learn how the various backup tools, including NetApp SnapCenter and third-party integration with vendors like CommVault, Veritas and Veeam make using Snapshot copies for enterprise data protection more accessible than ever. NetApp AltaVault, NetApp Cloud Control and hybrid cloud solutions are also key areas that we will address. 12717-2 - Use NetApp OnCommand Workflow Automation as a True Self-Service Portal by Abstracting User Input In this live demo, we show attendees who are already familiar with Workflow Automation (WFA) how to abstract the user input from your workflows. This will let you build reusable and operator-friendly workflows, where all parameters are externalized. Workflows originally designed for customer X can now be reused by other customers by simply replacing a single Excel file. User input is no longer focused on technical fields like cluster, vserver, lifs and protocol; but are now focused on business input, such as company, location, environment and service. Thanks to this abstraction layer, OnCommand Workflow Automation becomes a true self-service portal. This live demo shows you an all-in-one package that can be reused for 95% of your customers and already contains many ready-to-use workflows for multiple purposes, such as advanced provisioning and advanced decommissioning. 1 Hour Breakout Mirko Van Colen - Professionel Services Consultant, NetApp
12721-3 - Learn How To Make Advanced Workflows Last year we had amazing feedback on our live NetApp OnCommand Workflow Automation (WFA) demo and our "dirty tricks." People asked for more, for a longer session and for level 3. 13145-1 - Data Privacy: Addressing the New Challenges Facing Businesses in GDPR, Data Privacy and Sovereignty One of the biggest challenges facing companies today is the rapidly growing expansion of data privacy and sovereignty laws. Whether you operate in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia, Pacific Rim, Latin America or any other jurisdiction; your ability to embrace new technology is impacted by the legal obligations to address data privacy compliance and localization as part of your planning process. These issues are even more important with the upcoming enforcement of the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that will impact companies anywhere in the world—even if they do not have operations in Europe. Companies jumping on the GDPR bandwagon are circulating misleading information—claiming to have tools and technology to solve GDPR issues. However, GDPR is first and foremost a legal compliance issue. In this session, we will discusses global data privacy laws, the myths and truths around GDPR and the impact GDPR will have on companies in the U.S. and elsewhere. We will also talk about the importance of building the required legal privacy compliance framework to meet obligations under data privacy laws, including GDPR. We'll examine why security is not the same as privacy and share the steps NetApp has taken to ensure compliance. The session also highlights how NetApp has met the model of excellence that has earned them recognition from data protection authorities in over 160 countries 1 Hour Breakout Sheila FitzPatrick - Chief Privacy Officer/WW Data Governance & Privacy Counsel, NetApp
13147-2 - Implementing Performance Guarantees in Shared-Storage Environments The problem most IT departments face is how to deliver, at a reasonable cost, consistent and reliable performance to users with a shared storage architecture. With potentially hundreds or even thousands of workloads flowing in to and out of a shared storage pool un-governed, you’re only one SQL query away from a major performance incident. For predictable performance in an affordable structured storage environment that operates like a service provider, there is adaptive QoS. This session examines the methodology of storage as a service (SaaS) and how to deliver that to your customer with adaptive QoS. The session delves into the data analytics used to establish service levels and how to implement them with tools like NetApp OnCommand Insight, the Workflow Automation SLO pack and Service Level Manager. At the end of this session, you will be able to: • Analyze workloads in your environment • Classify workloads into service levels • Apply adaptive QoS policies 1 Hour Breakout Paul Chilton - Professional Services Consultant, NetApp
13236-2 - Rethinking VMware Backup with FabricPool NetApp has long led the VMware data protection market with our NetApp Snapshot integrated backups. These give VMware administrators the ability to quickly and easily protect and restore virtual machines (VMs). As IT has evolved, a new use for VM data protection has emerged with customers who want to keep remote Snapshot copies in a different cost model for efficiency. This session will explain how fabric pools change the backup architecture in a VMware environment. Fabric pools allow VM administrators to maintain large numbers of Snapshot copies on the primary system, while consuming little to no storage. This simplifies VM restorations so that the need to restore from secondary storage is all but eliminated. This session will also discuss how NetApp SnapCenter manages fabric pools and what the decision criteria is for deciding which storage service to use based on your requirements—AWS S3 or NetApp StorageGRID Webscale. 1 Hour Breakout Promise Owolabi - Solutions Architect, NetApp

While the ONTAP solution unifies the storage infrastructure, often referred to as the NetApp Data Fabric, the ONTAP solution allows an organization to combine traditional data centers and new architectures into a unified data fabric. This lets organizations move, store and manage data across flash, disk and cloud resources in a unified manner. However, today's threat landscape continues to serve as a reminder of the importance and value of ensuring prescribed security objectives and confidentiality, integrity and availability for your organization's data and information. An on-demand lab complements this session. 1 Hour Breakout Andrae Middleton - Security Technical Marketing Engineer (TME), NetApp
14060-3 - Deploying Enterprise Atlassian Tools at NetApp In adopting a new set of development tools from Atlassian (JIRA, BitBucket, Confluence, Bamboo, Crucible), NetApp's engineering support team wanted to provide more than just new tools. They wanted to provide an enterprise-quality solution for the business. That meant providing: • Local redundancy, not just recovery in place • True turnkey disaster recovery, not just offsite data backup • Development and staging environments that could be cloned on demand from production—not separate, manually synchronized configurations Supporting a global engineering organization required validating a backup process for applications based on NetApp Snapshot copies—that only officially supported offline backup. They also had to create a cloneable environment that needed few or no configuration updates. This required network design to ensure production and development environments didn't cross. The resiliency of the design has already proven itself during a change to the underlying database shortly before going live and the inclusion of additional related products into the environment within the first months of the launch. They also added a test management tool to the configuration using the existing deployment architecture. This session will outline the storage, networking and virtual server approaches NetApp used to create this new deployment environment, and establish a reference architecture for future tool deployments. 1 Hour Breakout Daniel Holmes - Senior Software Engineer, NetApp

15636-2 - Databases with NetApp ONTAP in Public and Private Clouds Cloud-based infrastructures are becoming easier to deploy and are delivering more and more value to real customers every day. The benefits are especially compelling for data-intensive environments such as databases. On-demand provisioning of compute resources allows a quicker response to changing business needs, while reducing license costs. Even more important, the advanced on-demand data management capabilities of NetApp ONTAP can combine with the on-demand compute abilities of a cloud infrastructure to take the benefits even further. It's easier to scale out, backups become faster and simpler to manage and disaster recovery can be a pushbutton procedure—all at lower costs than traditional approaches. Complicated needs such as DevOps and scale-out replication of database and application deployments become easier and allow users to create wholly new services. New technologies such as Docker are also starting to disrupt the traditional cloud architecture. This session will focus on real-world cloud deployments (including both public and private cloud options) in production with real customers. The focus is equally split between the business value of these approaches and the high-level technical implementation. We will discuss both Oracle and Microsoft SQL, but the principles apply to almost any database environment. 1 Hour Breakout Jeffrey Steiner - Principal Architect, NetApp
15653-2 - NetApp AltaVault and Databases: Cloud Backup and Disaster Recovery NetApp AltaVault is for cloud backup and disaster recovery, but what does that mean in a real database environment? This session covers real-world uses with a model Oracle database environment. We'll first review the high-level architecture of such a solution and some of the details of what it looks like from an administrative point of view. We will explore all three aspects of the solution—backing up to the cloud, restoring from the cloud and disaster recovery within the cloud. We'll then review the business benefits such as the TCO and ROI analysis of the solution. NetApp AltaVault is a great cloud backup solution, but it's equally impressive in a disaster recovery situation. It's easy to design a fully automated DR strategy to bring an environment back online within the cloud. We'll start with a 650GB Oracle database backed up to AltaVault as a model. Disaster strikes, and the complete environment is then automatically brought online within the cloud. It relies on AWS as a cloud provider, but the approach could easily be adapted to other public and private cloud solutions. We will explain the complete process including scripts, APIs and other commands used to drive the provisioning of storage for the database server, creation and configuration of an AltaVault instance, reconnection to the cloud and the complete recovery of the database.
